I love her but this is why young girls have eating disorders and low self esteem : (. Looks like a completely different girl, and girls see images like this and think it's real, and that something is wrong with them because they don't look like this.

Things that people say..

That make me angry. It seems that people in my life particularly those who aren't in the fashion industry have lots of "interesting" comments to make about the industry that make me steam. Personally, I like to be educated about a subject before claiming to be an expert about it and making all sorts of irrational statements that are not grounded in truth whatsoever. Examples to follow.

"It's only modeling if you get paid. Otherwise it's just photo taking." -this doesn't even make sense.

"model (from Middle French modèle)[1], is a person who poses or who is displayed for the purpose of artfashion, or other products and advertising."- Wikipedia

Yes getting paid is nice but you can certainly be a model without being paid or even making a living at it.

"All photographers are only photographers because they want to hook up with the models."  With the exception of GWC types this is absolutely ridiculous and insulting. Photography is an art that takes years to master and refine, photography equipment costs thousands if not tens of thousands of dollars.....really?? All this to pick up girls? Ironic seeing as that I personally have met and worked with maybe a hundred different photographers and none of them have made any effort to pick me up at all. It's so insulting to the profession.

"These are photographers not agents. They have no connections." Funny, seeing as how tons of photographers at least in my experience regularly do test shoots for all of the top agencies in Toronto. They also have designer, makeup artist and client connections. Photographers often hire models for paid projects with commercial clients. Not to mention that just shooting with a really famous photographer can launch a models career.

"Model Mayhem photographers aren't real photographers". (direct quote from my agency, no comment from me) Yeah, tons of them suck, but there are lots of professional fashion and commercial photographers on model mayhem, a lot of which are extremely talented, great people and genuinely want to network and help out new models. Being a photographer who has a model mayhem page doesn't make you a "guy with camera". Frankly they are probably just bitter because I am often able to find paid work there that they can't take a cut from. ha. Stereotypes suck.

Probably more to come...

Studio backdrops like these should be burned.

I remember having backdrops like this for school photo day in Grade 4 I don't know why people still use them especially for "modeling portfolios". I don't even know what it's called but it's terribllllle.

I don't like it. I have it so I can share pictures and stay in contact with family and close friends. I do not wish to have 1,500 friends. I do not like the idea of strangers looking at pictures of me celebrating Christmas with my family in my pajamas. : |

If you look me up on facebook you will notice that I only have about 40 friends. You would think that would be a clear indication of the fact that I don't want to be friends with you if I haven't met you in person but apparently it isn't. I really don't like to offend people by not wanting to befriend them on facebook so this puts me in a quandary.

Types of Modeling that I Hate and Would sooner eat a bag of woodchips than take part in.

I get really ranty late at night what can I say! :)

1. Paid to Party Girl Model
I always see these girls on the rare instances that I go to clubs and they always look kind of trashy : (.

1. Glamour Modeling Like This

3. Import Modeling
I'm under the impression that only asian girls are allowed to do this type of modeling...I don't get it...maybe I'm wrong.

RANT: Models/Photographers who are against testing

This is my sleepless/lonely at 2:30 am insomnia rant...

The other day I was chatting with a photographer about collaborating on a shoot and he quoted me his rates. I understand when photographers who are established charge reasonable test rates, but this person was not exactly Mario Testino, and the rates he quoted me were astronomical. It kind of annoyed me a lot. I'm not sure what kind of aspiring models have $500 to pay for a test shoot..maybe ones who are very spoiled by their parents but certainly not me. I mean that's like 6 months worth of groceries, and I explained to him that unless I plan on giving up eating in order to have the honor of working with him it was not happening.

Lately in my bored internet browsing I've noticed that sooo many models and photographers are dead against shooting TFCD/P. I think this is absolutely ridiculous and I really don't get it. Personally, modeling is a passion for me and I love to be in front of a camera. I usually do 3-4 TF shoots per week on top of paid work/going to castings/auditions/sleeping. If you're truly passionate about something you should want do it as much as possible regardless of whether you're getting paid. Perhaps this is just the artist in me. Testing is a great opportunity to network/improve/have fun/get amazing new pictures and I would do it 8 hours a day 7 days a week if I could.  Also I think models and photographers are kind of equal in the fashion world... clients pay models and photographers we shouldn't be paying each other.
